Overview about our Firm

Piston & Carpenter P.C. accommodates a wide range of employment and family based immigration and nationality services to corporate, business and individual clients. We represent a broad corporate clientele, based throughout the United States, from start-ups to publicly traded companies, and are aware of the services and representation they require.  With a staff of uniquely qualified full-time attorneys, including partners Michael E. Piston and Krista L. Carpenter, as well as several experienced legal support assistants, we are able to quickly and accurately assess your case and determine the most cost-effective and expedient manner to achieve a successful outcome.

Partners

Michael E. Piston is the senior partner at Piston & Carpenter P.C.  He has practiced immigration law exclusively for over 20 years and has spoken at numerous American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and ILW conferences and workshops.  He has also written several articles for the AILA Annual Conference Handbooks and ILW PERM Handbooks.  

Krista L. Carpenter has been a partner at Piston & Carpenter P.C. since 2007.  A graduate of the Michigan State University School of Law, she has been practicing immigration law exclusively since 1997.  She is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and regularly attends national and regional conferences.  She is admitted to the State Bar of Michigan and is authorized to practice before the Eastern District of Michigan and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.  She specializes in business immigration. 

Associate Attorneys

Michele R. Redburn joined Piston & Carpenter P.C. in November 2010 as an associate attorney. She graduated from Michigan State University School of Law in 2006 and has practiced immigration law exclusively since that time. Michele is an active member of AILA and regularly attends national conferences. She is admitted to the State Bar of Michigan and is authorized to practice before the Eastern District of Michigan and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. She specializes in family based immigration, adjustment of status, naturalization, asylum, and removal defense.

Joel A. Wisniewski graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2009 and was admitted to practice law by the State Bar of Michigan the same year. He has been practicing immigration law since being admitted to the State Bar, with a focus on nonimmigrant visa petitions. He handles all nonimmigrant matters for Piston & Carpenter P.C., but also has experience in family based immigration, asylum, removal and employment based immigrant petitions. He is an active member in the State Bar, AILA, local county bar associations and local nonprofit agencies. He joined Piston & Carpenter P.C. in February, 2013.
